FAQ-1457: How to capture calls from an Analog POTS Line
CAPTURE CALL RECORDS FROM AN ANALOG POTS LINE
For calls to be reported by our software you need to have a telephone system with an SMDR or Call Accounting option that will send the call records to our Call Accounting Software so that we can capture and report them.
CALL TRACKING WITHOUT A PHONE SYSTEM
Occasionally we are asked if we can track analog telephone lines that are not connected to any telephone system. These would be plain POTS Telephone lines like you would have at your home.
ANALOG CALL CAPTURE DEVICE:
In order to track calls on these lines we sell a device that connects between where the phone lines come into your building and the telephone devices connected to these analog phone lines. This box can listen and transmit the Call Traffic for both incoming and outgoing calls made on these trunks. This call information can be sent over a serial or IP connection so that it can be captured and processed into the Comm One Call Accounting Software.
These boxes come in 2, 4 and 8 port configurations to track 2, 4, or 8 analog phone lines. The boxes can be connected together to track more lines if needed.

SPECIAL INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS:
Installation requires that you wire the boxes in-line on the phone lines you want to track. This requires that you make special RJ-11 (standard telephone connector) connections for the lines you want to track. You will need to make connectors into and out of the box. If you are not able to make these wiring changes yourself, you may need assistance from your local telephone vendor to come on-site and make these changes for you.
