FAQ-1671 AVAYA IP OFFICE SMDR DNIS

DNIS (Direct Number Identification Service)

DNIS stands for Direct Number Identification Service.  DNIS is the incoming number that a customer dials to reach your office.  Avaya IP Office supports DNIS and shows it on the call records so that Comm One Call Accounting can pick up the DNIS and report it back to you.

HOW IS DNIS USED?

If you assign DID (Direct Inward Dial) numbers to your phone users, DNIS is the feature that allows the IP Office to route incoming calls to the extension number that is assigned to that DID number.

DNIS is also used to route incoming calls to the correct extension or department.  For example, if your company had 10 phone lines and a sales and support department, you could advertise a separate sales and support number to your customers.  When a call comes into your office on the sales or support line, the phone system would know to route the call to the appropriate group by the phone number that was dialed to reach your office.

TOLL FREE calls can also be tracked so you can see how many times a particular toll-free number was dialed.  This can help you analyze the effectiveness of an advertising campaign that publishes a specific toll-free number.
